Sir,
I read the work on the microfilaria detection in pleural fluid with great interest. [1],[2] Gowrinath raised an interesting question and concern on the technique for determination.[2] Indeed, Garg used a simple technique, and the finding of filarial parasite by this technique is usually accidental. However, the problem is whether this simple technique can effectively exclude the other possible co-morbidity such as malignancy. It is of no doubt that the co-presentation between malignancy and filarial infection is possible. [3] It might be that the determination of filarial parasite in pleural fluid is not an acceptable gold standard.
